Gonzaga to Allow Knights of Columbus Chapter
The school has reversed its decision on allowing the Catholics-only group to charter.
Saying in a statement they may have overlooked the group's mission and history of charitable works in the community, the Student Activities Department will now allow a group of students to form the chapter.
The Knights are a decades-old, male-only organization dedicated to performing charity and other activities in the community. They often engage in fundraising for causes for children and hospitals.
Newstalk 870 had reported earlier this spring the school had denied the founding of the chapter because it only allowed men and Catholics. This was in spite of Gonzaga being a Catholic university.
However, the school did not officially release a statement saying exactly why the group was initially denied. Only brief statements from the Gonzaga Director of Student Life shed light on why the group was initially banned.
