Grant County Deputy Talks Would-Be Dry Falls Jumper Off Ledge

Dry Falls is one of the big wonders of Washington State, with many visitors and tourists who go there every year in Grant County.  It is south of Coulee City.

Dry Falls is where in prehistoric times, 15,000 years ago, a massive glacier carved from Montana through Central WA, leaving a 400 foot tall, 3.5 mile wide cliff that back then was bigger than Niagra Falls.  Lots of water.

Now, it's mostly 'dry' but has several small naturally-occuring lakes around the bottom. The Visitor Center has several observation areas, currently some are being renovated.

The GCSO did not specify where the man was, but he was distraught, and threatning to harm himself, most likely by jumping off some part of the cliffs.  There are some challenging areas that fences, warning signs and cables keep people away from so they don't fall.  Over the years a few people who've ventured outside of the safety zones, where they should not be, have fallen to their death.

  Deputy Spends Hours Talking Him Down

The GCSO says the Officer spoke with the man for three hours, before he finally agreed to let other Deputies help him climb to safety, then they took him to the nearest mental health crisis center so he could get immediate treatment.

His name was not released for privacy reasons, but the GCSO says he was not from Grant County.
