Gregoire Benefits from Old State Pension Rules

Former Gov. Chris Gregoire is receiving an annual pension of nearly $160,000, the most for any retiree in state government. The Olympian reports that she's benefiting from old state pension rules that are in place for state workers hired before 1977.

Two Men Die in Separate Accidents on Washington Waters

Two men apparently drowned in separate accidents yesterday on Washington waters, one in the Stillaguamish River and one in Spanaway Lake. The Snohomish County sheriff's office says a man died while rafting on the Stillaguamish River near Arlington. Crews are searching for the body of a man who fell from an innertube on Spanaway Lake.

Oregon Man Shot, Killed by State Troopers

Two Oregon state troopers have been placed on routine administrative leave after a 27-year-old St. Helens man was shot to death following a high-speed chase. Authorities say Josiah Fischer fled after troopers attempted to stop him Friday for a traffic violation.

Portland Toddler Loses Leg in Lawnmower Accident

A Camas man operating a riding lawnmower struck his 18-month old grandchild yesterday afternoon, severely injuring the child. The toddler was taken to a Portland hospital. The Clark County sheriff's office says the child's left leg was amputated by the accident.
