Just under 7 hours after a man was found fatally shot near a Hermiston convenience store, a suspect is in custody.

MAN FOUND SHOT OUTSIDE METRO MART IN HERMISTON

A call came in early Sunday morning about a man who had possibly been shot in the parking lot at the Metro Mart at 1120 West Highland Ave.

Upon arrival, Hermiston Police found the victim, 27-year-old Kevin James Hines of Hermiston, lying on the pavement. He was not breathing and was unresponsive.

Despite the efforts of Umatilla Fire District 1 EMT's he could not be revived and was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities didn't say how many times he'd been shot, or where he was hit.

  AREA LAW ENFORCEMENT SPRANG INTO ACTION

With the help of six area agencies from Boardman to Umatilla, Hermiston Police began to investigate, and at 8:05 AM Sunday morning, they located and arrested a suspect. He's identified as 23-year-old Ethan Mathew Bowe and he was located at his residence.  He's now in the Umatilla County Jail facing the following charges, according to Hermiston Police:

"He is being lodged in the Umatilla County Jail on charges of 1st Degree Murder, Unlawful use of a weapon and Tampering with evidence."

Hermiston Police officials say this was not a random act, but that they do not believe anyone else in the public is in danger. The investigation continues.
