Hit-And-Flee Driver Nearly “Makes News”, Almost Hits TV Station
Somebody nearly made "news" literally Monday morning in Pasco, as they plowed a stolen car into a tree, and nearly hit the building of KEPR-TV on west Lewis.
Around 2:17am, Pasco police got a report of this green 1993 Honda Civic, which was apparently westbound on Lewis street, headed for the Blue Bridge on ramp.
Police believe it was traveling at a high rate of speed. Although police didn't witness the accident, the investigation showed the driver's speed caused them to fail to negotiate the sweeping turn towards the bridge.
They apparently lost control, careened down the embankment, coming to a rest against one of the trees in front of KEPR-TV. It's possible, say police, the tree kept the car from hitting or going through the building!
Authorities are searching for the driver who's not only facing reckless driving, but also auto theft charges. Just over two hours later, around 4:35am, Kennewick police reported they got a call about a car matching the description of this one that had been reported stolen by the owner. The driver was nowhere to be found when police arrived after the crash.
