Not only were tons and tons of valuable animal feed destroyed, but hay fires are among the most stubborn to extinguish.

In the wake of the two arson-related haystack fires near Eltopia in north Franklin County, likely set on Sunday February 9, the Franklin County Farm Bureau has put up a $1,000 reward for information leading to the identification and apprehension of the suspect(s) responsible.

The two fires were reported in the late night hours in the area of Eltopia West and Glade Roads. It took multiple Franklin County fire units to get the huge stacks chopped apart and spread so they could be watered and burn out.

No dollar amount was released, but it's believed to be significant, from the thousands of bales estimated to have burned.

Anyone who has any information is urged to call (509)-545-3401, the Franklin County Sheriff's office. All leads can be confidential.

Especially given the weather during that period, investigators say the fires were arson.
