Is Styrofoam Ban Coming to Oregon? Halfway There
The bill, HB2883, would ban any restaurant or business from using or handing them out.
Portland already has such a ban, but this would apply to entire state of Oregon. The bill was voted on and legislators were split 29-29. A re-vote was taken, and it passed 32-28.
The bill now heads to the State Senate. If it does pass, the bill has provisions that would fine a business for up to $250 a day for every day they are found to be using styrofoam. The bill apparently does not apply to private household use.
Oregon legislators are also considering a plastic bag ban, that would also fine businesses for utilizing the single-use shopping bags.
