Machete Assault Suspect Done in by Kennewick K-9

A violent assault suspect, who attacked their victim with a machete, was done in my Kennewick Police K-9 Ivan.

The Suspect Was Located in Columbia Park

Around 12:52 PM Thursday, KPD was alerted about an assault near the East Boat Launch, which is next to the Blue Bridge. Reports indicated the male suspect attacked someone with a machete, inflicting serious injuries.

Kennewick and Richland Police both coordinated searches, and after initially not finding the suspect, K-9 Ivan was brought in to track. The search led to the west end of the park, past the Edison Exit.

K-9 Ivan Got Him

After being located and confronted by Ivan, the suspect, identified as 32 year old Emmanuel Mpangu, refused to follow commands and was eventually subdued by a "combination of impact munitions" from Officers before finally giving up.
