The deal would provide a larger parcel of land for the district to add schools.

The district owns a parcel near 10th and Hansen Park that is just over 32 acres, but would like to trade it for a larger parcel that is located near Steptoe, 10th and Clodfelter Road - an area known as the "Five Corners."

The district is in discussions with those current landowners.  The School Board's Board of Directors have approved this resolution.   According to Superintendent Dave Bond, the new parcel of land is big enough to allow both a middle and elementary school to be built, and would offer access from multiple roads.

It would also be farther way from Desert Hills, which is not far from the current 10th and Hansen Park parcel.   Having the new middle school farther away would make it easier to modify school boundaries when it is completed.
