Machete Man Arrested After 7 Hour SWAT Standoff in Kennewick
What began as a domestic dispute turned into a 7 hour standoff with Kennewick Police and the SWAT Team.
Around 2:30PM, Police were called to 2906 West 7th #77 in Kennewick, inside the Whispering Winds Mobile Home Park. 28-year-old Socrates A. Diaz had allegedly chased family members through the home with several large machete knives, threatening to kill them.
They were able to escape without injury and call 911. When Police arrived Diaz initially came outside, but then went back in and refused to talk with officers or follow commands. The Tri-Cities Regional SWAT Team was brought in.
After a 7 hour standoff including the use of flash bang devices, chemical agents, and verbal communications, finally Diaz surrendered without incident and was treated at an area hospital for minor injuries. He's now facing 2nd Degree Domestic Violence charges.
Police did not say what led to the beginning of the dispute.
