Man Dies From Pasco Hit and Run Injuries, Suspect Identified
A Pasco man who was struck by a vehicle on Sunday morning has sadly passed away.
Pasco Police has reported that Luis Degoberto Mortaya-Hernandez has passed from injuries sustained in a hit and run incident from an early Sunday morning accident.
Here are details from the case according to the Pasco Police Department:
Following our initial investigation into the hit-and-run of a pedestrian on N 4th between the railyard and the airport warehouse district on early Sunday morning 082221, there have been two major developments: a suspect has been identified and the victim has died from his injuries.
The pedestrian struck by a passing car has already been identified in local news coverage as Luis Degoberto Mortaya-Hernandez, a 55-year-old Pasco resident.
Our investigation so far indicates that Mortaya-Hernandez was just an innocent victim.
Following Pasco Police's social media post, detectives were put in touch with a suspect who identified themselves as the driver.
As a result, a vehicle has been identified and impounded for evidence processing. It bears damage that appears consistent with the incident, but conclusive lab results are pending.
Due to the suspect driver’s level of cooperation, the investigation is continuing without a custodial arrest. Anyone with additional information about this case is urged to call Dispatch at (509)628-0333 or email Detective Ron Seltun at seltunr@pasco-wa.gov about case 21-24684 Vehicular Homicide.
