Oregon State Police and Milton Freewater Police officers continue to investigate and search for the driver wanted for allegedly killing a woman early Sunday morning.

An OSP Spokesman said around 3:30AM, 20-year-old Alicia Bernhardt of Walla Walla was fatally struck by a vehicle on Highway 11 in Milton-Freewater. The incident site was at milepost 31, near the south end of town.

She was reportedly hit by a northbound 2002-2003 blue Honda Accord, say troopers. There were apparently some witnesses, who said the Honda fled the scene before first responders arrived. The OSP says the Honda would have damage to the passenger side (right) front corner and is now missing the passenger side mirror (likely the impact point in the crash). Officials did not give specific circumstances of how the accident occurred. It is not known if Bernhardt was crossing the street or how she was hit.

Bernhardt sustained life-threatening injuries, and died at the scene despite the efforts of the EMS crews. Anyone who may have information about the crash is urged to call the Oregon State Patrol at 1-800-442-2068. All leads can be confidential
