After 12,000 hours of research by multiple teams, the North American Wood Ape Conservancy has concluded its independent investigation of sightings in the Ouachita Mountains spanning Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

A lot of the study is preoccupied with sounds. Wood knocks, thrown rocks, chirps and clicks, etc. These kinds of noises are difficult to make without arms capable of throwing or mouths capable of language, and yet are extremely common in the Ouachita Mountain region.
