The National Association Of Criminal Defense Lawyers is protesting and demanding the US Justice Department explain why Drone Strikes were used to take out US Citizens in the Middle East...

Now before you react, keep in mind, these were, yes, US Citizens technically, BUT were individuals who had openly and knowingly taken up the cause of radical Islam or had engaged in acts of supporting terrorist organizations.  US born citizens Anwar al-Awlaki and Samir Khan were targeted and eliminated by Predator Drone strikes recently.  al-Awlaki, you may recall, was the US born Islamic Cleric who fanned the fires with his radical and anti-US rhetoric; deemed especially dangerous because he delivered his messages in English.  For two years, US Intelligence chased him around the Middle East.  Considered a mid to upper-level cleric/leader in Al-Quaida, he was killed by a Predator Drone in September.   Now, the NACDL (the lawyers) are demanding US Justice answer for the attack.  Their argument is largely that how does the US Government justify taking out one of it's own citizens without due process.  But apparently the criminal defense attorney's group forgets when a US citizen knowingly, willingly, and actively participates in activities deemed and proven to be threatening to the safety and sovereignity of the United States, they forfeit that right.  In previous generations, it was called "treason."   Other US Citizens have been executed for it...do you recall Benedict Arnold?  Perhaps the NACDL needs to be shown tapes of the 911 bombings to remind them that anyone who engages in proven activity against the United States of a violent nature is a justifyable threat.
