We've been following the progress of the new federal traffic drone that could be used to monitor traffic in the Columbia Basin.

According to sources, the drone is set to test fly tomorrow over the skies of the Mid-Columbia.   The drone is equipped with technology similar to what is already in place that can slow down or disable vehicles.

Reports indicate the drone will be flying sometime tomorrow, we will keep you posted as to when it will be taking flight.    The purpose of the drone is to monitor speeds of vehicles, and if a vehicle is seen obviously speeding, the drone will activate that technology to slow down the car, truck or SUV.  Obviously, this technology only works on vehicles with computer systems on-board,  it is not known how old a vehicle's computer has to be for it to work.
