Although the project is in the early phases, if it comes to fruition, there could be 8.25 acres of high-end apartments built adjacent to Vista Field in Kennewick, near Lawrence Scott Park.

The Tri-Cities Area Journal of Business is reporting long-time area commercial developers, the Chavallo family, have an architect and are drawing up plans for the project.

The family, who have developed at least five signature properties and developments in the area, bought five acres at the site and have added more. Their original plan was to build a veterans facility in 2010 but zoning restrictions prohibited that from happening. Although many of their developments have a Mediterranean feel, they say these will be very different.

Now in 2019 some zoning modifications would allow the Chavallos to put up buildings that could hold up to 224 apartment units. The master plan for the former WWII spin off military airfield is to convert it to a 103-acre pedestrian-focused urban center. Reportedly parcels of land will be available to commercial developers by 2020.
