Given that we get pretty harsh winters here in the Mid-Columbia, several groups have convinced the City of Kennewick to take bold steps to protect animals, namely dogs.

Starting in 2019, January 1st, a new code will go into effect requiring dog owners to place shoes on their canine's feet when the temperature drops below 20 degrees outside. The measure passed at the last City Council meeting.

According to one city official, "we're tired of seeing outside dogs especially, or those out walking, having to step through ice, snow and sleet."

The new code can seen by clicking here, for the city code list for Kennewick.  No word if other cities will follow suit.
