Oregon Arsonist Waits for Firemen, Then Shoots at Them Then Himself
Springfield, OR Police and fire crews continue to investigate and be thankful after an arsonist set a blaze, then waited for them to arrive and opened fire.
According to MyColumbiaBasin.com early Wednesday morning fire crews responded to a blaze in the community which is not far from Eugene, OR.
But when they pulled up and began rapidly deploying hoses and crews, shots rang out. At least six were fired, some of striking the front of a Springfield Fire truck. No one was injured, and police quickly dispatched to the area the shots came from.
Then police and a tactical crew heard one more shot, and found the body of 65-year-old Lance T. Jacobs lying on the ground outside his home, he was dead from a single self-inflicted wound from a rifle found beside him. The fire did spread from a duplex to another home, but it was put out and no one was hurt.
Officials say they never know why he apparently set up the ambush, and fired at officers. Initial evidence points towards Jacobs as being the one who started the fire.
