Pasco police were called Monday to the area of 40th and Opal Streets near Mark Twain Elementary school, after reports of two dogs chasing children and others.

Authorities said two large German Shepard dogs were chasing people, and when one of the officer tried to confront the animals to stop the chasing, the dog charged at him in an attack.

The officer shot the dog, and it was taken to a local vet hospital. The dog was treated and will survive, according to vet hospital officials. Police say Animal Control was able to identify the owners, and will be following up with them about the incident.
