Police Search Garage, Part of Catalytic Converter Theft Operation?
Kennewick Police announced Tuesday afternoon they searched a shed garage on East 3rd.
Officers use a search warrant to investigate
Not a ton of details were released because KPD says it's still an ongoing investigation, but they have found evidence.
Wednesday afternoon, officers went through this structure, located somewhere on East 3rd in Kennewick. The street runs from Chemical Drive just south of Twin City Foods, heading east towards the river.
Inside officers said they found at least one catalytic converter, as well as tools commonly used to remove them, power tools, and blades.
Police say the investigation also involves auto thefts.
No mention if any suspects were identified or in custody, but more information is likely to be released as the investigation continues. Although WA new laws have been passed significantly limiting peoples' ability to recycle converters, this has not yet noticeably slowed the theft rate, which is the highest in the nation.
No word if any arrests were made as part of the search.
