Population Explodes: Nearly 300,000 Now Call Tri-Cities Home
When I moved to the Tri-Cities in 1995 there we just about 100,000 people living here. Being from Southern California I totally thought this was a really small town. Boy have times changed.
The latest Census Bureau report revealed last year in 2018 the Tri-Cities population was at 296,000 people -- WOW -- that means in the 24 years I've lived here the population has tripled!
Tri-Cities as an area is now larger than Olympia, Bremerton or Yakima. We're now the 8th largest area in the Pacific Northwest (with Eugene, OR, 7th). We're now larger than the other Tri-Cities in north Tennessee.
By the time the VIT plant is finished we may be at 400,000.
A little less than half of all people in our area are employed.
Here's the Pacific Northwest's Top 10:
- Seattle
- Portland, OR
- Boise, ID
- Spokane
- Salem, OR
- Anchorage, AK
- Eugene, OR
- Tri-Cities
- Olympa
- Bremerton
"The Tri City Herald" did a nice long article on what all this growth means to our area.
