Sunday Drive-by Shooting Leads to Fatal Crash in Kennewick

Drive-by shooting leads to crash later, and fatality
The incident began around 4 AM Sunday morning. A suspect driving along Edison Street in Kennewick fired a single shot at a Kennewick Police Officer who was parked in a lot in the 100 block of North Edison.
The officer and his car were not hit, but as the search for the vehicle began with other law enforcement agencies, evidence related to the shooting was recovered at the scene.
A short time later the suspect vehicle was located near South Union and Creekstone Drive, but when a Benton County Deputy attempted to pull over the suspect they sped away. As the pursuit continued, the suspect vehicle struck a BCSO cruiser near the intersection of 8th and Vancouver.
The crash area was not far from the Zintel Canyon Playground and Underhill Park. A female passenger in the car was unresponsive at the scene and was pronounced dead following the crash. The BCSO deputy was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
The driver and shooting suspect, a 25-year-old male, was taken into custody and booked on a variety of charges. The identity of the suspect and the deceased woman has not yet been released pending notification of relatives. The investigation continues.
