Most people living in the Northwest aren’t aware of the beauty at John Day Fossil Beds National Monument and Park located in the heart of Oregon, a place where time has painted itself into the Earth.
In recent years, Wade Park has been plagued with vandalism, garbage, and graffiti, and as I began my jog early this morning, I noticed what appeared to be spray paint on the path in the distance. My first thought wasn’t pleasant - as I was expecting to see a gang symbol or profanity. Not this time, instead the path was covered with miles of positive messages - written with sidewalk chalk.
Samuel H. Boardman Park’s amazing beauty isn’t just confined to daylight hours. The park is designated as one of Oregon’s International Dark Sky Parks. If you enjoy stargazing, there’s plenty to see all year round on a clear night.
