Trial Delayed Again for Woman Who Killed Moped Rider

It was last August when the community was shocked by the crash and death.

31-year-old Leo Birrueta died when his moped was struck by a truck driven by Katie Summers at the intersection of Clearwater and Edison the evening of August 21st, 2018.

Summer's Toyota pickup was found behind Super Supplements, witnesses reportedly saw her emptying pot containers into a nearby dumpster according to police reports. Burrueta died at the scene after being struck by the truck, as she was trying to turn across Clearwater onto Edison. The case attracted a lot of attention in part because Summers is a well known Instagram fitness model, who chronicled her journey as she dieted and exercised down from 215 lbs to about 100.

Now her trial has been pushed back again because defense attorneys want more time to interview key witnesses and other people. The trial was set to begin a short time ago, but has now been pushed back to December 9th.
