Two Iconic Washington Bridges Are Getting A Makeover
Up for a road trip? Two iconic bridges in Washington State are getting a makeover.
State Route 20 icons, the Deception Pass and Canoe bridges, are getting a much-needed makeover. The bridges are amazing and offer incredible views. It's time to grab your camera and take a road trip!
If you've been thinking about a road trip this summer, check out Deception Pass State Park -
Contractors working for the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) will repair corroded areas of the bridges and repaint them to preserve the structural integrity. Both bridges will remain open to vehicle traffic for the duration of the project, though one-lane closures are expected nightly. More information can be found on WSDOT’s website.
Due to the construction, parking on the bridges will be extremely limited. Currently there is no parking on Fidalgo or Pass Islands. Limited parking is available at the Whidbey Island lot on the south side of the bridge. The North Beach Group Camp parking lot, just a short hike from the bridge on Whidbey Island, is also open during construction. Get updates on the project at the WSDOT North's Twitter feed at @WSDOT_north.
The construction shouldn't stop you from visiting, grab your camera and gas up the ride and take a road trip to check out these bridges.
Don’t let this work prevent your visit. Come out and view the process! You’ll find many beautiful locations at Deception Pass State Park that offer different views of the bridge.
