Wanted Man Shot by US Marshals ‘A Violent Offender with Gang Ties’
Officials say the man shot by US Marshals Wednesday is considered a violent offender, he was wanted on previous charges, and has gang ties.
Wednesday afternoon, officers tracked 41-year-old Elijio Mendoza to the Sun Meadows Mobile Home Park in Yakima, where he tried to flee in a vehicle. Authorities say he "accelerated his vehicle," threatening the life of a US Marshal. That prompted another officer to shoot the car and driver. He was pulled from the car, and life saving measures performed on him before he was taken to the hospital where he remains in stable condition.
US Marshals say Mendoza is considered a dangerous offender and has gang ties. The investigation continues.
