The cause of the fire is still unknown, but it destroyed a Prosser meat business, another establishment, and damaged the Police Station.
Saturday afternoon, around 1PM, West Benton and other fire crews responded to the block in the 1200 block of Bennett Ave. for a report of a fire.
It began in the Underwood Prosser Lockers in a building that also houses the Police station on the same block. It is not yet known what triggered the fire, but it spread quickly. Crews were able to beat back the fire, as of Monday some hot spots were still being monitored.
Cooks Ace Hardware and the Masonic Temple in the block have some water and smoke damage, there's also been damage done to the City Hall and Police station. Officials have not said if any displacement will occur due to the damage, especially the police station.
Fire crews say the Prosser Lockers shop is a total loss, it was completely gutted and destroyed.
A total of at least 11 other fire agencies were called in and helped with the fire. The investigation continues to determine what started it. Fortunately, despite it's size, no one was injured in the incident.
