Often in the Mid-Columbia, we see smoke or haze during spring and summer months, yet there's no major current fires burning the area.

So, where's it coming from? That question was raised by Benton County Fire Protection District #2 and they have the answer.  The District is centered in Benton City, and covers 88 square miles of surrounding area.

You can monitor what's burning in the Pacific Northwest, and where the smoke is coming from at the Washington Smoke Information website. It has daily updates, and even satellite and other image showing the plumes of smoke and haze as they make their way across the region.

It's useful in knowing what's burning, where it's coming from, so you will have a better idea of air quality.
