Benton County Fire District 4 crews and police continue the investigation as to why this vehicle caught fire at the West Richland Circle K, but they likely know why the driver ran after it went up in flames.

Late Monday night, police got calls about this vehicle, which was sitting at the gas pump at the store at 3957 West Van Giesen street. The driver was nowhere to be found. Fire crews were able to put it out before it spread to the pumps, which could have been catastrophic.

Police later tracked down the driver and found they'd been driving on a suspended license, likely the reason for fleeing. The driver was also cited for reckless endangerment for abandoning the vehicle when it went up in smoke.
