Kennewick Police continue to investigate a home invasion and likely suicide.

Woman found dead in home after gunshot heard

Around 7:50 PM Wednesday evening, Kennewick Police were dispatched to a home in the 8600 block of West 1st. Ave, for a report of a home 'invasion' The location is about a half-mile east of the intersection of Clearwater and Steptoe, and a quarter-mile south of Clearwater itself.

Police said the man called 9-1-1 after his ex-girlfriend "unlawfully" entered his home and caused a disturbance.  The man quickly left and called Police.

When officers arrived the woman apparently barricaded herself inside the home and refused to leave. Sometime during the incident, she armed herself, said officers. It is not known where she got the firearm.

   SWAT entered home after gunshot was heard

Officers attempted to negotiate with the woman to exit but she refused. Then when a single gunshot was heard fired from the home, the SWAT team was activated. They continued to try to reach the woman but got no response. Finally, after numerous attempts at contact,  they entered the home. The woman was found dead from a single gunshot wound.

The investigation continues, the woman's age and identity have not been released.
