Yakima County is looking to break up marijuana businesses in the unincorporated areas of the county starting in March.

County officials have given notice to businesses to cease operations or be forced to close by the county.

The county will seek warrants if businesses continue to operate and have already sent cease and desists to 20 businesses operating in Yakima County.

Medical Marijuana facilities fell under a different designation until 2016 when the state moved medical marijuana under the more broad recreational umbrella.

A Kittitas County judge ruled that Yakima County was in their legal right to enforce the ban.

The county is expected to take immediate action once the March deadline passes.
