Chinese Woman’s Suicide Prevented by Size of Her Waistline – Tried to Jump Down Well

Sometimes, it's worth it being a little on the big side!

The website Weird Asia News reports a woman in the province of Shandong, China, tried to kill herself after fearing her husband would punish her over a spoiled crop of potatoes. Authorities say the woman in the rural town of Jiehe accidentally allowed their field of potatoes to spoil. Fearing he would reprimand her, she tried to commit suicide by jumping down the well.

However, she is a bit overweight and it saved her life! Her waistline was a little bigger than the well, and she only dropped about 9 feet before being stuck. She began yelling for help and was rescued.

She later told rescuers and police she felt embarrassed by the event. No word on her husband's reaction -- to the suicide attempt or the spoiled taters.
