We actually understand her reason behind the idea, but the fact that she would even propose it is just another example of progressive stupidity.

Rosalind Osgood of the Broward County, Florida School Board recently put forth an official proposal to require a “dress code” for parents!   She complained about reportedly seeing parents dressed in what she felt was inappropriate clothing while dropping off or picking up their kids.  She also said sometimes they wear too revealing outfits during school functions.

She was quoted as saying:

“It’s hard for me to tell a child not to show up for school with hair curlers, pajamas or short shorts if they see parents wearing them, Parents need to lead by example.”

According to the Florida Sun-Sentinel newspaper,   school officials, including the superintendent, said it was doubtful they would consider such a proposal, but he did say he would address the issue during an upcoming Parent’s Night.

On one hand, we agree with her basic principle.   It IS the responsibility of an adult to dress accordingly and wear clothes that are appropriate for whatever they are doing.   We don’t wear skanky clothes to the office, and like it or not, people do judge your character by how you dress and take care of yourself.  It IS the parents job to teach their children what is, and isn’t, appropriate.

HOWEVER,  it’s none of the schools’ business to be telling people how to dress.   To us, it’s like the motorcycle helmet law issue.  You’re a moron, in our opinion, if you don’t wear one.   You’re asking to kill yourself in a wreck, BUT there’s the part of individual responsibility. It’s NOT the government’s job to be your nanny.    While you may do stupid things,  as long as they are not proven to be detrimental to others, you have the right to “be stupid.”   Yes, it’s sad.  But when schools, government and other authorities start meddling in our private lives (like the Obama’s do now) and tell us what to eat, what cars to drive, forcing us to buy healthcare whether we want to or not, etc, then it’s gone too far.

I personally don’t smoke, and don’t like it when somebody is blowing smoke like Puff the Magic Dragon in my direction.  BUT that doesn’t mean I want to BAN cigarettes.     I think you get the point I am trying to make.  Apparently, this educator does not.
