Actress, singer and former Mouseketeer Annette Funicello has passed away at the age of 70 from complications stemming from her battle with multiple sclerosis.

Funicello first entered households in the mid-1950s as a 12-year-old Mouseketeer, and later parlayed her fame onto the big screen, starring in a string of '60s movies with Frankie Avalon like 'Beach Blanket Bingo' and 'Beach Party.'

After losing the ability to walk in 2009, Funicello had reportedly been in a coma for years as a result of the MS. Her family was by her side when she was removed from life support.

She is survived by her three children and husband Glen Holt.

Disney's official fan club was one of the first to break the news on Twitter.
