The tiff that led to Jesus Montero being suspended happened in the Northwest A league between Everett and Boise.

The Mariners announced over the Labor Day holiday that Montero has been placed on the suspended list, and will not play for the remainder of the Mariner's season. Montero, a former Yankee, had spent the majority of his time with the Mariners since 2011.  He was on a rehab assignment with Everett, after having only played in six games for Seattle this season, hitting .235.

Montero was on rehab assignment with the Everett Aquasox and last Thursday, they were in Boise playing the Hawks (the Cubs "A" franchise).    According to CBS Sports,  Mariner traveling scout Butch Baccala had an ice cream sandwich sent to Montero in the Everett dugout in an attempt to embarrass him!

Montero then grabbed a bat, and went into the stands looking for Baccala!  While the incident didn't result in any physical damage or injury, the red-faced Mariners issued a statement saying  in part:

"First off, it is clear that both Jesus Montero and Butch Baccala engaged in behavior that is far below what we expect from members of our organization, including bad judgment at nearly every stage of this incident."

Montero has been suspended for the rest of the season, and will meet this week with Mariner officials.  They indicated they will help him get some support for what they called "personal issues."  Baccala has been sent home, he lives in the Bay Area, and Mariner officials say his future with the club will be determined.

CBS Sports reported Baccala was lucky he wasn't fired on the spot.  Regardless of how you assess a player,  publicly attempting to humiliate them isn't acceptable on any level of baseball or sports,  but then going into the stands with a bat isn't either.
