The death occurred at the Snake River Correctional facility in Ontario.

Authorities reported early Friday 54-year-old Terry Goodman was taken to the infirmary at the prison and pronounced dead shortly before 9pm Thursday evening.

Officials did not release any details as to why Goodman may have died, or the circumstances under which he was found.    It's being called an "unanticipated" death.   Sometimes,  inmates in poor health are monitored more closely than others, due to their physical condition.   Officials didn't say if this was the case.

The Oregon State Patrol will conduct the investigation.   Goodman entered the prison on September 11th of this year, on two drug charges involving meth and prescription medications, and two counts of child neglect.  His earliest release date would have been in July 2019.

The Snake River facility houses 3,000 inmates, was opened in 1991, and is the largest of Oregon's prisons.
