Some very interesting issues are included -- and excluded -- from the DNC event in North Carolina.A number of telling changes have been made to the Democratic platform that will be used when the party re-nominates President Obama. They include:

  • Pro-Israel language that was present in the 2008 platform has been removed. Critics say the new platform brings it in line with Obama's stance on Israel, including his refusal to accept that Jerusalem is the nation's capital. Also notably missing is any mention of the terrorist group Hamas.
  • The new platform also endorses taypayer-funded abortions. The new language includes a line that reads "regardless of ability to pay " (for the woman to have one). That last statement is tacked on to the DNC comments about Roe vs. Wade. The "regardless" statement means even if a woman cannot afford such a procedure, the government should or would pay for it.
  • The 2012 platform has been edited so that 'God" has been removed. The previous statement from the 2008 platform is shown below, followed by the 2012 revision:

“We need a government that stands up for the hopes, values, and interests of working people, and gives everyone willing to work hard the chance to make the most of their God-given potential.”

Now the words “God-given” have been removed. The paragraph has been restructured to say this:

“We gather to reclaim the basic bargain that built the largest middle class and the most prosperous nation on Earth – the simple principle that in America, hard work should pay off, responsibility should be rewarded, and each one of us should be able to go as far as our talent and drive take us.”

This should be a most interesting Democratic National Convention.
