Sunday October 22nd, the Tri-City Americans will be holding their special Paint The Ice event. If you want to do some pink, go ahead. Or, red, white, blue, any colors!
It's a difficult part of the WHL season, early to mid fall when overage, or 20-year-old players, have to fight for one of only 3 such roster spots on a team.
There have been a lot of Tri-City Americans who've gone on to the NHL, and many have lasted for years: Olaf Kolzig, Stu Barnes, Cary Price, Brian Boucher, Scott Gomez, Eric Comrie and the latest, Brandon Carlo. But this season a record number of Americans are ranked NHL prospects.
Eric Comrie was, a few years ago, the next in line in a long string of Tri-City Americans net minders who appeared to be NHL bound. Thursday night, those dreams became reality. He joins Kolzig and Price as another outstanding Americans goalie to get to the NHL.
Driving over the Cascades is a FAR better prospect for the opening round of the 2016-17 WHL Playoffs than taking a leisurely 15-hour bus ride to Prince George in Canada. Thanks to their thrilling overtime comeback victory over Everett Sunday night, the Americans did just that.
The Tri-City Americans have always been creative in thinking up crazy fun stunts during intermissions at the hockey games. Saturday night was no different.
