Most small towns, especially those with gradually shrinking populations, or heavily dependent upon the uneasy world of farming, would welcome an opportunity to add a company with a LOT of jobs.

Thanks to vastly improved weather conditions, and other factors, the Kennewick Irrigation District issued word Thursday that will have homeowners, and farmers breathing somewhat of a sigh of relief.

We're so used to having an exciting and eventful week of unlimited hydroplane racing in the Tri-Cities, it seems 'strange' when other areas in the Northwest struggle with staging a similar event. But that's the case on Lake Coeur' D' Alene, where for the second year in a row, a large unlimited racing event slated for July  has been cancelled.

Now, USA Today as released a report claiming some 2,000 other water systems across the county have lead levels that exceed the EPA 'safe' standards, including several dozen in our state.

With some irrigation districts only able to supply as little as 40, 45 or 47% of water normally allocated to farmers in Southeastern Washington, farmers and water suppliers are already preparing for what is expected to be a repeat of this year, in 2016.

It's been a season marked by water shortages, specific water days, and brown lawns. But with cooler wetter weather, you still have some time to green stuff up before the final day of water delivery.
