86-Year-Old Man Honored for Saving Life of Delivery Driver
An 86-year-old man has been given the Benton County Sheriff's Department Citizen Service Medal for his role in helping a delivery driver who'd been ejected from their crashed vehicle. It's the highest award a civilian can be given by county law enforcement.
Tuesday afternoon, Orville Long was given the award, and reunited with the driver. Back on June 22nd Long was driving on Sellers Road behind the delivery truck, when one of it's tires blew out. The truck swerved out of control, and violently rolled off the road ejecting the female driver.
Long pulled over and began to administer first aid and called 911, keeping her stable until EMS units could arrive. Sheriff Jerry Hatcher said Long was to be commended for "jeopardizing his own safety while attempting to save the life of a fellow human being."
Nice see a great local story!
