No charges have been formally fled yet, but the Washington State Patrol says drugs or alcohol are believed to be the cause of a fatal crash early Sunday morning.

The Patrol says 18-year-old Emilio Martinez Silva was westbound on State Route 24, about 14 miles west of Othello. Around 4am, his car crossed over the center line, striking a car driven by 42-year-old Jesus Mendoza Salazar. Although he and another passenger survived, one of the others, 36-year-old Victor Martinez Ibarra, died at the scene.  According to KNDU-TV the crash blocked both the east and westbound lanes of the highway.

The investigation continues, but no charges yet filed.
