Drunk Driver Crashes Bus With 46 Servicemen on Board

Oregon State Police say a number of charges will be facing a bus driver, who crashed a bus loaded with Army National Guard troops near the Oregon Coast.

Tuesday morning OSP troopers say the bus was headed south on Highway 101 near Manzanita, OR, about 15 miles south of Seaside, when the driver began to swerve and weave.

Reports indicate passengers on board became worried about the driver's increased use of his cellphone, and inability to keep the bus moving straight.  The weaving increased badly until the bus finally crashed into the sidewalk. No one was hurt, but the bus did sustain some damage from hitting the curb and concrete. The driver was taken to the hospital for an evaluation after reportedly hitting the steering wheel.

Kenneth Alexander, the driver, is likely facing as many as 46 counts of reckless endangerment, besides DUI as troopers believe he was impaired. He was arrested on suspicion of DUI. On board the bus were 46 members of the Oregon Army National Guard.

The troops were temporarily hosted at the Manzanita City Hall until another bus could be dispatched to continue their journey.
