Sunday night, a level 3 (emergency) evacuation order was issued for the Upper Goose Lake Recreation area, which is about 15 miles Northwest of Othello.

It was due to a fast-moving fire that was burning on the Columbia National Wildlife Refuge, and consumed at least 800 acres. However, according to the information service ifiberone.com, the evacuation orders have been lifted and the fire has been contained.

While no homes or very many structures were threatened, authorities were concerned and issued the Level 3 evacuation because it's a popular recreational area. Police and Grant County Sheriff's were patrolling the area, notifying campers and others to leave immediately.

The cause of the fire is not yet known, the investigation continues. A Red Flag Fire warning is in effect for the Lower Columbia Basin through early Tuesday morning due to high wind forecast and low humidity.
