Excessive Speed Triggers Injury Roundabout Crash
Early Friday morning, Kennewick police and the Washington State Patrol say excessive speed was likely the cause of an injury accident in the roundabout near Steptoe and Columbia Park Trail.
Officers say the vehicle entered the offramp at a high rate of speed southbound from 240, towards Columbia Park Trail and the roundabout.
The driver apparently lost control, the car slamming into the retaining wall the surrounds the median. The driver did sustain significant but not life threatening injuries, but had to be rushed to Trios Southridge ER. No update on their condition is known at this time. The force of the crash was enough to deploy the airbags in the vehicle.
Authorities did not provide any information about potential citations. The investigation continues and will be conducted by the State Patrol, because it occurred on a state highway and offramp (240).
