Friday Night Lights Return to Tri-Cities-Here’s Schedule
After losing the fall 2020 season, the Mid Columbia Conference returns with it's abbreviated schedule for the 9 teams.
Tonight, Friday 2-26, Richland travels to Lampson Stadium in Kennewick to take on Kamiakin, Pasco entertains Kennewick at Edgar Brown, Chiawana will play at Hanford at Fran Rish Stadium, Walla Walla will be at the first ever varsity game held at Southridge High, and Hermiston has a bye.
That last event is of note, as with the bond that passed a couple of years ago, both Kamiakin and Southridge have gotten brand new turf fields. When Southridge was built and opened in 1997, it had a large stadium bleacher area and lights, capable of being used for games. The football field was grass.
However, to our knowledge, a Varsity game has never been played there; they were all at Lampson. The field was converted to soccer with the goal posts being removed. But with the new renovation, SHS will actually play some Varsity games at home for the first time. Below is an image from KSD Bond update video, showing the new stadium at bottom of photo.
It is not known if the brand new field at KaHS will be used for any varsity games, it will host JV and frosh contests. Part of the issue is that the grandstand framework is in place, but the seats and bleachers are being waited on, and did not arrive in time for installation--at least for this weekend.
Likewise, Kennewick also got a brand new field for it's practice, JV and frosh, but will still play Varsity at Lampson. All games tonight at 7PM Kickoffs. Below, from KSD drone video, is a view of the new field across the street from KHS. It's at the location formerly known as the 6th St. Field.
HOWEVER, before you decide to travel to one of the contests, remember only 200 people allowed. Each roster uniformed player gets two tickets. General 'wander in' admission will not be allowed at most of the games due to COVID restrictions.
Check with your respective school district to determine who can come and who cannot. Start with the Athletic Directors, they're a good source, as are AD Secretaries and assistants.
