A half-acre of brush was burned, nearly threatening a Pasco middle school, because some teens decided it was a good idea to light off illegal fireworks.

Tuesday afternoon, Pasco police and fire responded to the lot behind Stevens Middle School at 1120 North 22nd.

Authorities say the fire fortunately was just dry grass, no tumbleweeds or other larger materials that would have made it spread much more quickly.  A Pasco officer spotted the three teens running from the area, they were apprehended and are facing reckless burning charges.

Police say the teens were aged 14, 14, and 15 respectively. The fire was put out, no buildings damaged.
