The Washington State Patrol recently named this intersection one of the most dangerous in our area, and now another person has been injured there.

Investigation continues, according to KEPR-TV, after a weekend accident sent a man to the hospital.

Authorities say near the intersection of Van Giesen and Birch, a pedestrian was struck by an SUV while using the crosswalk. There have been two other fatal crashes very close by in the last three years. As of Monday morning, Richland police said the man was still in the hospital with significant injuries.

Police advise people at this crossing, and others as well at night, to wear lighter more visible clothing, and exercise special caution when crossing, even if you have the right of way. Just because you can see vehicle doesn't mean they can see you.
