Local firefighters stopped a spreading fire from total destruction of a shop in Finley.

It started on Friday when the homeowner was operating a controlled burn in a fenced area on the property off Haney Road. However, the fire had grown quickly and spread to natural vegetation, and then to a nearby wood pile. The homeowner attempted to extinguish the growing fire with a garden hose, but was unsuccessful.

Upon arrival, firefighters saw that the fire had spread to a car and a detached shop. It was filled with household goods and combustible items. Crews were able to stop the blaze from doing any more damage. The homeowner was injured but declined medical treatment.
