A contractor has apparently accidentally ruptured a gas line, and repairs are being made in Kennewick.

Shortly after 10:30 a.m. Kennewick police received reports of a gas leak on Kellogg Street near 8th Street and soon discovered a two-inch gas line had been ruptured. A contractor working in the area apparently caused the break.

The area is closed off until repairs can be made. Citizens are being asked to stay away from the area until repairs are made. No injuries or issues reported, according to KNDU-TV.

UPDATE - Around 15 homes in the immediate area were evacuated, and Kellogg between 6th and 10th could be closed for some times while repairs are made.  It is possible part of the road may have to be dug up in order to fully repair the line, but no other confirmation available on that report.
