Walla Walla to Reject Library Renovation Bid, $1 Million Over Budget
The building in its current configuration began around 1970, and despite some tweaks, the Walla Walla Library is due for renovations.
Bid Came in $1 Million Over Budget
Walla Walla Officials said this week they are regrouping and will continue to pursue methods to renovate the city library, after a bid came in way over budget.
Recently, the City was taking bid proposals from companies to create blueprints and perform the renovations based on the City's plans. However, the one bid they received came in $1 million over what the City was planning to pay.
It's Not Uncommon for Only 1 Bid
City Communications Director Brendan Koch said it's not uncommon to only receive one architechtural/engineering bid, especially with projects like this. But after reviewing the proposal and discussions with Officials, the City Council plans to recommend rejecting the bid at their next meeting on April 8th.

In the meanwhile, the library will remain open during spring break, and City officials are reviewing the bid to see if there are areas where changes or 'cuts' can be made to lower the expected cost.
The City also plans to renew it's efforts again to get more public input about what citizens want included in the renovations.
